Weekend Open Forum: What's the first video game you ever played, and on what platform?

Well, I played pinball for 10 cents before video games, but I don't think that counts. I believe the first video game I ever played was Space Invaders at the arcade. There was also this table top style western shooter where two people sat on either side of the table and controlled these characters you simply tried to shoot each other, it had a wagon that went through the center now and again. Could have been that as well. It was the mid 70s at the time.

Trek73, a cpu hogging Star Trek game on an HP 2000 mini computer in high school. Later, they had an HP 2000 in college with an inferior Star Trek game on it. To one up them, I logged onto my high school HP 2000 at a paper terminal at my job at McDonalds and listed the source for the Trek73 game out, and typed it into the college HP 2000 computer. This then caused me to become co-chairman of the college branch of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) at UIC.

First arcade game was ninjar turtles, first console game was pole position on atari.

1st was space invaders.. coin op

Pong. First the arcade version that you found in grocery stores and alongside pinball machines, and then the very first Pong game you plugged into the back of the TV and promptly burned a Pong screen shadow into it.

It was definitely on the Sega Master System. The first game may have been that little puzzle game where you're a snail trying to get out of puzzle. It was built into the Master System Console. If not that, Hang On/Astro Warriors since they were on the first cartridge.

The first game I played in the arcades was Space Invaders. The first games we got on our first computer was Space Intruders and Gulpman on the ZX Spectrum 48k. Awesome times

hmm Don't remember what the first game I even played was. Think it was either sonic for the genesis or Super Mario World for the SNES. What really got me into gaming tho was the Playstation with FF7. Although my friend and I played a lot of Cool Boarders 3 on his PS. .

Amnesia or Zork 2 on the Apple IIc using 5.25 inch disks on a black and green text screen.
Still waiting for a modern day Amnesia.

Carmageddon was probably the second or third game I ever played. But it was the one that brought me into gaming like no other game ever has. R.I.P Carmageddon

Space invaders - TI 99/4

Hopper was a good one too.

Either "Super Breakout" or "Space Invaders" on the Atari 2600 console, and just a wee bit later, the Atari 1200XL computer.

I actually bought the Atari original games package for the PC, but it wasn't the same, since I was unable to get the rudder axis of my joystick to emulate the paddle controllers effectively. That killed "Breakout", Space Invaders", and a couple of others. Besides, they didn't have "Defender" in the suite, and that was one of my favorites.

I would have to say Pitfall on the Atari. Frogger and Donkey Kong are pretty high up on this list as well.

I don't remember what the very first one was. I very vaguely remember a game about knights jousting that was played with a joystick. I may have been too young to play, but I remember watching my dad. I know there were a number of flight simulator games I used to play with my dad, and some side scrollers including Abuse, Commander Keen, and Duke Nukem 1. These were all PC titles of course. Later on, I remember Doom and Quake, Command & Conquer, and of course Warcraft, Starcraft, and Diablo. It was the Blizzard games that really hooked me - I've been playing Starcraft since I first tried it at age 7.
