Weekend Open Forum: What's your all-time favorite video game console?

I think my first console was the NES but none of the games worked all that well. Then I got either the SNES or MegaDrive and didn't play anything else until the PS1 was released. I still love the 16-bit stuff like Sonic and Contra though; I played the sh** out of all those games when I was a kid. I will actually play that stuff now from time to time in the form of PC emulation and disc-based collections.

I would have to say the N 64. I spent so many hours on Turok, Turok Rage wars, super smash, mario kart, perfect dark and 007, Rush 2, Quak's, Duke nukems, and many others i cant remeber off the top of my head.

ColecoVision I may have spent more hours on but over all my PS3 gets the nod :)

golden eye and turok for n64, classic ps1 games, twisted metal, james bond, need for speed, syphon filter, crash bandicoot, tekken then came along the ps2, gta games, star wars, i miss those early mornings as a kid playing these games, if i remember the first console i ever got was a sega some fun games on that i cant remember

I've been PC ever since NES faded away. I've played games on other consoles but never owned a console past the NES. I'm just now starting to get back into gaming after a 10 year walk away from games.

I can't remember if it was called the Atari 5200 or the Atari 7800. I remember when I bought that I thought it was THE coolest game ever. It was so shiny and black and the controllers had everything on them. It was way cool and the one I have the most fondest memories of.

Chrono Trigger (need i say more) on the SNES is still my all time favourite game.

However, seeing Soul Calibure on the Dreamcast was a revelation. That was one amazing piece of silicon.

pong on atari my first console was great then i got an amiga computer wow...

I've owned quite a few but the one I've enjoyed the most by far is the PlayStation 2. It wasn't the console that mattered though, but the perfect timing, a period when most of my friends would meet to play games and hang around, that kind of thing.

Aye, was the same for me to. :)

We spent thousands of hours sat in front of the TV playing the PS2, having a laugh and just generally socialising.

Of the latest generation of console hardware, I'd say the Wii is the most fun. Its one of the few things several generations of your family can enjoy at the same time, especially games like bowling which even grandparents can join in with. Its always guaranteed to be a fun time if you fire up the Wii when you have family visiting.

Actually I've never owned a console. My folks aren't financially well off especially so back when I was growing up. Fact is I didn't own a PC until I left my first job back in 1994 and bought myself a 486DX2-66 with 4 MB of RAM. I guess that would make the PC my favorite console.

Aged 4, in 1997: PSone. Played Rayman, CTR, Crash Bandicoot. Blew my freakin' mind!

Aged 8, in 2001: PS2. Played MoH, CoD, Gran Turismo. Blew my mind again!

Aged 13, in 2006: Xbox 360. Played CoD, Forza, BF:BC2. Blew my mind, yet again!

Aged 14, in 2007: Built my 1st gaming PC. Played CoD4, CoD1, Battlefield 2, CoH, DoW. Felt awesome!

Aged 16, in 2010 PS3. Played BF:BC2, Little Big Planet, PS1 games. Moderately excited me!

Aged 17, in 2011. Built my second gaming PC. Play CoD4, Half Life, Crysis 1 + 2, Bad Company 2. Changed my life! Felt god-like to build something! Drove me on to study computing at college!

Well. There's my life story.

The old consoles are always the best. Xbox live is so full of annoying, stupid little kids, that I've long left Xbox behind. Sold my PS3 because it bored me.

Still got a PS1 and PS2 :D Good stuff! Sometimes play N64 and Gamecube. They're also awesome.

NES had great accessories and games. especially once I got my multitap (Super Spike volleyball and World Cup Soccer), NES light gun (Freedom Force and Duck Hunt), NES max (didn't help me much in ring king). Some of my fav games are Flying Warriors, Blaster Master, Street Fighter 2010, RCR, Tecmo Bowls, Ice Hockey and many of the others.
Loved Dreamcast but didn't get mine til the end of it's life cycle.

Gotta be the 5200. Dreadnaught Factor, Defender, Joust, Pac-Man..boy, they played good on that thing. But ooooh, the controller..

My very first video game system was Intellivison back in 1978. Then i got Vectrex. Then in 86 my dad got me a SMS. In 89 i bought me a sega Genesis. I have a few that are my ALL TIME FAVORTIE. 1. SMS 2.Sega Genesis 3. SNES 4. TurboGrafx16. 5. PSX 6. XBOX. My over all favorite is Genesis!!!

Playstation 3. Great games, excellent graphics, the move system needs some work but it still does a decent job keeping me fit too.

Single-player - Half-Life 1 for PC, Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time for consoles
Multiplayer - Starcraft 2 for PC, Goldeneye 64 for consoles

Part of it has to do with what two of those games brought at the time -- unequal gaming experience in their genres. Obviously there are probably better games in their respective genres today. But I feel it's unfair to judge it that way.

1998 was the best year for gaming imho.

Guest above: Keep in mind the topic is not your favorite game but your favorite game console.

Im 39 years old and i played atari 2600 atari 5200, atari 7800, colecovision, nintendo, snes, n64 very little sega not much ps1 a little ps2 and more ps3, but what i like the best is pc gaming, it is much more comfortable sitting at my desk, with snacks, drinks, surround speakers, and a mouse. The console games i enjoyed the most are.

atari 2600 - combat - there was a glitch to make tanks to skip across the screen and it was much fun to surprise your enemy with that trick!
atari 5200 - space invaders - this was and still is the most elegant space invaders i have seen. the sounds, the shapes of the invaders was hypnotizing and addicting.
atari 7800 - Qix - Just a cool puzzle game with neat sounds that i couldn't put down, and later seen on windows 95 or 98 as a screen saver.
colecovision - Donkey Kong
Nintendo - too many to list but a few favorites were, Super Mario Bros.(played till i could beat it with one man several times in a row". Learned the "100 man trick"
Metroid was Probable my favorite. just awesome. Must have patience...Zelda, Cobra triangle, RC Pro Am the list goes on and on.
snes - Super Mario bros. 2 and 3, Castlevania, Street Fighter, Super Metroid, Super Everything! There alot more great ones, but im not recalling at the moment.
N64- Donkey Kong Country - still fun, Metroid was kinda different, didnt really adapt well. Many good ones though.
Sega - Mortal Kombat !!!!!! Enable Blood code! abacabb This Game was THE reason to buy sega when nes was dominating.
Just gonna stop there to update you young fellers.
