Weird recyle bin problem with XP Pro

I read the 2004 post on this problem here. It gives a solution but requires that the Recycler be renamed.

I have searched with everything I have and cannot locate the recycler file on my system (MS Search utilty, Command prompt cd C:\Recycler, etc.)

Any suggestions?

I get the recycle bin is corrupt alert - the recycle bin opens with 1 empty folder in it - when I delete a file it does not go to the Bin it is permanently deleted.

Puzzled - is this a new MS "feature" I'm not aware of?

Thanks/

Do a windows search for the folder name, also install Avast anivirus and do a full virus scan, if it dosn't find anything i would advise re-installing windows and copy all your files onto a memory stick so you can just put it all back after you do. Sounds like a corruption error

I don't know how to fix it, but I do know at least on Win7 (and pretty sure it's on previous versions too) that lets you set what happens when you 'delete' a file. You can set it to perma-delete, bypassing the Recyle Bin automatically.
