Western Digital 2TB not working

just bought the WD2002FAEX. Its a SATA 3 controller, and I have the Asus P6T SE board.... installed properly and got it to show up in BIOS and Explorer but it keeps telling me Access is Denied... later set the jumper to 3.0gb/s but still no progress. does this mean my drive is DOA or is there another inherent problem I'm not aware of?

I tried to in windows but once again, it wouldn't give me permission. haven't thrown a new HDD in for years. what am I doing wrong?

What operating system are you using?

It's not clear to me whether or not you went to Disk Management in the Control Panel to format the new hard drive. If you haven't done that yet, try it.

I'll try that when I get the chance... I tried simply by right-clicking and selecting Format.

I had the same issue with this exact drive, had to use the windows install disk just to see the drive to format it. Mine did end up dying days later but it made lots of noise. Second time i threw on linux and never had a problem but that was a fresh install.

Nice video on how to install a second drive in windows 7. Works, I done it. Its just easier to show a link then try to explain. Hope this helps you.

I got it. I feel like an *****... I just had to partition it. Used EASEUS.
