Ok, so I was wrong... It was only guesswork...

But which of the "understanding", if any of them, was the one you ment? How much knowledge should we WANT to have about networking protocols, CSS & such?

ALL OF IT!!!!

I'm sorry, but I disagree... Why should everyone on this planet learn all of the protocols used in the CS industry?

There are plenty of other things than computers in life!
And I can't really see any reason for learning all of it? What use would they have of it?

They'd spend most of their lives learning it, and for what?

I can think of better things to talk to when I'm @ the hairdresser than "What do you think of the IPv6 protocol?"... That is, if the hairdresser isn't on a course that year for learning the new protocols that are being created...

With the sole exception of eliminating tech support, I can't really think of any reasons for people to learn them...

Not everyone. TS members perhaps.

Just US!

Ok... Misread you...

But I still don't understand why you want us to learn all the protocols, including implementations+++

I want you all to learn what I know and I want to know what you all do....

Surely that isn't too much too ask.... That's the point of here...

Just ask the right questions and give the right answers....

I seem to have been greatly misreading you...

You want us to exchange what knowledge we have, and learn what the others share...That's good, and what I thought we was doing here, though not on a big scale...

I thought you meant we should start reading whitepapers, and learn them by heart..

Personally, I'd like everyone to know everything about anything.

Computers are but a small candle on the birthday cake of life.. I think there should be higher priorities in learning such as basket weaving in space.. etc..

Just kidding about the basket weaving.. hehe. Really though, computers are pretty important to us and I think it is good to learn as much as possible...

BUT (here's the but!), in the great puzzle of matter and energy that comprises our vast univsere, prioritization of computers over everything else sounds very meager.

However, knowlege is power and whether you are learning more about pencil sharpeners or the design principles behind nuclear control rods, it will only help. So I'm all for everyone being required to know more about computers, but it shouldn't limited to computers.. We should know everything.

I entirely agree however its not www.life.com its www.3dspotlight.com .....

We are not talking about life only computers which are a small part of life here....

Again I did not say this so don't put words in my mouth I did not say....

If you want to talk about life I am only too welcome....

Life is something different....

I have a degree in Philosophy so lets go....

;)

Although he was well known during his own time for his conversational skills and public teaching, Socrates wrote nothing, so we are dependent upon his students (especially Xenophon and Plato and Phantaszmm the Dark ) for any detailed knowledge of his methods and results. The trouble is that Plato was himself a philosopher who often injected his own theories into the dialogues he presented to the world as discussions between Socrates and other famous figures of the day like Phantasm66. Nevertheless, it is usually assumed that at least the early dialogues of Plato provide a (fairly) accurate representation of Socrates himself.

my sig says nothing about life in the thoughts of the great thinkers.... it just says something about computers in the thoughts of Darth Vader.....

and i am telling you all now, don't be too proud of it.....

there is always someone and something better...

How else was he to find the definition of courage, and... argh.. mental overload... I've had too much to do with Socrates and Plato the last week to write more about them for at least a week...
