ICQ still works - and you even have access to your old contacts... but it’s no longer really useful...
I never used AIM - AOL was for noobs who accepted a proprietary connection to the net when every other ISP gave you unfettered access to the web.

I remember having two separate simultaneous convos with the same person, one on AIM and one on Yahoo! Messenger. We felt like such cyberstuds 20 years ago.

AIM was a really good, low bandwidth communicator with very low stakes. The total opposite of Fakebook.

AIM was a great little program, but like so many others, it simply could not keep up with the current batch but if it ever made a new & improved comeback I would bet they would attract quite a few users, especially the disgruntled that are tired of putting up with Fakebook .....

I think AIM was sadly too American centric to have survived no matter what new innovations they came up with.
