  1. I just build a full blown $6000 I7 supercomputer and want to use it for...well playing the greatest games ever, as i think everyone here would do as well. What do you think is the greatest ever created, not just game play people because yes the original first player shooters are great but i want to use what i bought so the more hardcore graphic games the better.

What Ram said plus Crysis Warhead and even the older STALKER games with the complete mod (SoC & CS). Those games graphically to me are one of the best and have great gameplay, STALKER is more RPGish and realistic mind you vs traditional FPS games. If you care about some multiplayer action I say Battlefield Bad Company 2 maxed in DX11 will satisfy your needs. Also don't forget that next year we have Crysis 2 and possibly Battlefield 3 but a lot of question marks still floating around regarding what they'll be like on PC.

Try flight simulator on a 30" pc monitor. It will make you rethink "super computer."

the complete mod for Call of Pripyat should make it one of the best looking games ever, otherwise it's just okay. the difference from DX10 to DX11 in that game doesn't look a whole lot different even with dynamic lighting enabled. it looks great with the sun shadow and post processing but I think a couple other games look better. for example, dirt 2 is very underrated as one of the most gorgeous PC games on the market.

    Hi ExCell,
I didn't think the 'complete' mod for COP was finished yet. Artistpavel said on his site that its not due out until this winter. are you using the "reloaded" mod maybe?
if you do have the Stalker COP complete mod....Gimmie! :p:wave:

Crysis wasn't really a good game though.

i know it's not released yet... i'm stating that it should make the game look incredible because of DX11. the previous games are only DX10 so CoP should look better by comparison, in theory anyways.

yea it's on top of my "things to download" list too :)

this is sort of unrelated, but in Dirt 2 have you ever experienced the inside of the RV not texturing? i was just playin it a few hours ago and it didn't load any of the textures. outside it was fine but the inside just revealed a bunch of dev textures with the little loading swirl on them. sort of strange. been playing it DX11 of course on my new 5870 but this is the first time i've seen that happen.

yes I have, occasionally the inside of the trailer will turn black with those 'swirls' you describe.right when I get in the door. I have been doing battle with steam/codemasters about Dirt 2 and crashes "dirt2 exe stopped working".... I think the problem may be a missing Open AL installer, but not sure what version it wants.

Is mow2 Modern Warfare 2? No way you can believe MW2 is graphically better than Crysis - unless you've been playing Crysis at low settings. There are several areas of Crysis where I was just blown away when playing at max settings. This physics engine of the game is incredible as well - maybe you should give it another shot TT. Don't get me wrong, I think MW2 is an incredible game also, but for different reasons.

    Haha, no.

While I never liked Crysis, MW2 does not have better graphics.

if you get the Artist pavel complete mods for STALKER Clear Sky and for Stalker Shadow of Chernobyl, they are graphically among the best out there as Relic said. Metro 2033 cranked all the way up will give it a run for its money no matter how "super "it is. Dirt 2 is very good for a driving game, and Battlefield BC2 isnt bad either. here are a few screens of stalker CS and SOC with the mods, Metro 2033, Dirt2, and Battlefield BC2, I posted. all of them cranked up as far as they will go. These are with 3 x HD 5850's and A Phenom II X6, so I'm sure whatever you got for $6k can handle them.

    what resolution are those?

i couldn't even get metro to run on my computer for whatever reason, so I had to run it DX9 under XP. here's another rather interesting submission... Just Cause 2. that game looked really good i thought @ 1080p and ran fantastic too. it's not real popular but i loved it; of course the obvious sandbox choice would be Far Cry 2...

Those are at 1680 x 1050 at the default (and only, 4AA) setting. 1920 x 1080 is 5-8 FPS slower. Metro may be the most horribly coded game to date. what does it do exactly when you try and run it? I saw that Tom's had some difficulty with it not running on the 5970, I don't remember if the 5870 was one they had problems with as well. i will try to find the article for you, it may help troubleshoot it.
as far as sandbox goes, I have seen some amazing stuff with Crysis....like the nuke gun LOL

***** okay here is the article, I think they were saying that it was an ATI driver issue not working with AA, or AAA on. They obviously have it fixed with the 5850, but maybe not with the 5870??? see if you can glean anything from the article EXC

yea this was with my 4870's in CF configuration, but it happened with no CF too under Win7... so DX10 i guess. after launching the game it would just lock up my system, even sitting idle on the menus. when i installed it under Windows XP it ran fine so i'm going to chalk it up to software incompatibility. interesting find though...

How is the gameplay/story in Metro 2033 Red? Once I get to upgrading my GPU I might be interested in checking it out, but everything I've read so far makes it feel like it fell very short compared to what STALKER offers which sort of disappointing.

    Hi Relic,
I think I might be in the minority here, but I think its brilliant (except for the coding) nothing else to date looks as good, and I like the story as well. it can even get a little spooky at times. I think a lot of the kvetching is about the requirements for the game on max settings. its the only game i have ever seen that recommends a GTX 480/470 and a i7, so it leaves the vast majority a**** out from playing it on very high, if you looked at my screen shots i put up, it took 3x 5850's to get that. but if you can, I think its very good.the HDAO, depth of field etc are incredible. as far as the story goes, I would give it a 85 to STALKER's 100.....thus ends my 2 cents worth ..:)

Ya those shots look great Red, especially that closeup. How would you rate the actual shooting mechanics? More realistic STALKER RPGish shooter or arcade like shooter?

Metro is More RPGish before the bullet leaves the gun LOL, accuracy is not at a premium as much as stalker. Stalker is more hide and sneek, sniperish as opposed to Metro witch is more blast your way through the mutants. I guess im saying stalker is a sniper rifle to metro's shotgun......hmmmm....did that make any sense??:haha:

Definitely gotcha :D, get in your face kinda shooters are always fun. STALKER's gameplay to me is pretty awesome, love that more sniper/realism feel but not crazy real since you don't see it often. Talking about this makes me want to go play STALKER now :haha: .
