go to another computer then download it to a flash drive if you have one no need to wast a CD then go to the bad computer and run in safe mode SmitFraudFix then reboot and run combofix if it does not run rename it to CBF make sure to copy them to your desktop do not run it from the flash drive

Thank you! I will try that. I need to get a new flash drive because the one I have got messed up at some point, but I will tell you the outcome once I try it.

wekk you can also try to boot into safe mode with networking by rebooting and taping the F8 key then select safe mode with netoworking and download the file from above then run as adviced

i aslo have the same problem!! one day all i can see is the wallpaper and no icons!! i work on a company that has hundreds of PC's and my responsibility is to make it run smoothly..my dillemma is how to solve it without formatting the PC...

can u guys suggest any simple ways on how to solve the problem? coz i cant really extend my time with the steps u just gave on 1 PC only...is there no AV that can detect that kind of virus?

there are also times the ACCOUNTS are being changed...with the same wallpaper but no icons..and your documents can be found on other accounts...at account startup a message will pop up saying " your profiles has been damaged and a temporary one will substitute with your original one " something like that..

thanks to those who will respond!! :p

Simplest way to solve the problem would be to have a good understanding of computer security - and to prevent the problems before they happen. I would also install programs to limit what websites can be visited without your permissions, then leave the employees the option to submit a site they need for review.

As far as already fixing the problem - each case is different depending on operating system - If you have XP you can use the recovery console as I posted instructions on the last page to recover the desktop - then run through our preliminary removal instructions to clean it - attach the logs and we can clean up leftovers manually

Unfortunately there is no easy way to clean and repair these things. It is a process which includes a layered approach

HEY! Last Known Good Configuration worked! It went back to stage one! (like in my other thread)

Windows even disabled the virused active desktop!

Alright I suppose I can put some effort into this...

Can you boot into last known good configuration (from the F8 menu like safe mode)
if that doesn't work

Do you have the recovery console installed?
...

That's great news, you can now continue to remove any issues

Should i do your fix or Daniel's?
Or should I follow the regular preliminary instructions?

is it okay if I don't check for all the updates? I downloaded all the products today, and i'm running them today.

The reason is that my internet won't work...

SUPERantivirus COMPLETELY froze my PC after 55 seconds.

This was what it found at the point of freezing:

Adware.WebHancer 6
Trojan Vundo 2

NOOO!!! i was copying all of these when my computer simply shut down!
My computer has been like that from day 1, never got decent tech support, so I don't think it was the virus that caused it... i believe it's a hardware problem...

I'm going to wait for a response before i touch anything. should i do SUPERantivirus in a different step?

I'm sorry. I edited my post. My internet wouldn't work when I plugged in the cord. Please reread my last post.

Oh dear

The only way to prove hardware fault, is by removing (or re-installing clean) the software.

It would be best for you to backup (virus and all)
Re-install clean
Install Antivirus (and have it updated fully)
Then return any backup (if you must)

Then if the computer restarts again, you will know that it's hardware

Well, the reason I assume that it's hardware fault is because I probably have the worst laptop in the whole world, and it has a history of doing this. I was saving for a new, nicer one when I was hit with the virus.

But I will definitely backup. What do I need to have do this?

To backup?

Usually any external media (CD DVD Flash Drive External HardDrive etc)

To install Windows?
The Windows CD, and the product key (usually printed on a label, stuck underneath your laptop)

Some Laptops (well generally all new ones) have a Recovery partition
Usually there is a startup prompt, to start this re-install proceedure.

But backup first

if you wish to enable task manager boot in safe mode. if your key combinations work in safe mode (Cross your fingers). Follow these instructions:http://windowsxp.mvps.org/Taskmanager_error.htm. this is a start. from here maybe we could get things working again. before you decide to reinstall or if you decide to reinstall windows. Please try every possibilities first. it is best to learn from these situations than to cover it up. You just might encounter something similar again. Also you may be of help to someone else that might experience the same problem in the future. that is if you are willing to spend the time.
Good Luck!

Would this work? Please tell me if it is a bad idea.
First, I backup all of the important files on a HD/multiple flash drives.

Then I try to fix my computer again, like I was before. This time, though, I would stop the SUPERantivirus scan after 15-20 seconds, have it delete those viruses, then start it again, and repeat this, until I am clean enough to go though the whole thing. Then I could go on to the next step in the preliminary.

If that fails, I buy a new computer with a good AV program, like Norton, plus the free AV's on the preliminary topic (not all of them running at once). Then I put all the clean backup files onto the new computer.

Would this be a good idea? I'd rather invest in a new computer because the one I'm trying to save really is pretty bad (hardware wise).

Can you post a quick summary of what the problem is does it turn off on you or your infected what is happening

buy a new computer with a good AV program, like Norton
That's a contradiction!
Norton and good AV, cannot go in the same sentence :dead:

You are best to download a free Antivirus product (that will secure you better than Norton anyway!) And then think about purchasing (although I wouldn't)

ie:

AVG Free Antivirus (Recommended for Antivirus and Spyware Protection)
Avast Free antivirus (Recommended by myself, as user friendly, and ease of use)
Avira Free Antivirus (Recommended by the boards Security helpers here)

@daniel: I am infected. SUPERantivirus found numerous infections when the PC turned off. However, the machine was making very loud sounds (I can describe it best as "whirring") which lead me to believe it was just my computer being garbage again.

@kimsland: Thanks for the advice, I won't buy Norton.

that sounds like a over heating problem. When that happns does the bottom of the laptop feel very hot

Yes, actually, it does. I got one of those trays that you place it on top, and I have a medium-sized fan that I put next to it whenever I turn it on , but sometimes the fan isn't enough.
