My grandparents on my mom's side, 1 was full blooded Swedish and 1 was full blooded Norwegian. Can anyone guess why that was an odd pairing?

During my one visit to Sweden many years ago, I do recall the Swedes mentioning that their equivalent of the USA Blonde (or Polish) jokes were Norwegian-based. Or was it something to do with Vikings, etc.?

You are fairly close. There have been long running feuds between those two countries. Want to tick off a Norwegian? Call them a dumb Swede!

    American

I am American, I was born and in the good old USA and have as much a right to call it home as any American Indian born on the same day. This country is all I know.

With that Said, my heritage is:

    1/4 Polish (from mom)
    1/4 German (from mom )

    1/4 Italian-Sicilian (From Dad)
    1/4 Ukrainian (From Dad)

I'm all American. I don't like that statement that nobody here is really from here. If my grandparents on one side were both Irish but say moved here when they were young, and then something else on the other side, I'd be at least 50% Irish according to just about everyone in this thread. Do you think if I went over to Ireland and tried to get involved with some group over there that they give a flip about me being 50% Irish, no, I'd be the American.

Nobody in other countries care at all that you have 1/4 of you able to be traced back to their country.

I think that most native-born peoples in a country refer to themselves as their nationalities, but when speaking to non-natives, they take the role of the country they live in :D!

    I don't know...Germany or Switzerland perhaps?

    The latest ancestor I traced was I think 16 or 1700s :D

Anyway, probably most or all of my ancestors in the past 100 (if not more) years are from the US.

My family came to the United States on September 27th, 1857...150 years :giddy: (right after the "Great Hunger" or "Potato Famine" which I am learning about in my "Modern History" class...hipocritical name though :D )! We should have a family reunion then :grinthumb !

My family's paternal side has been in the USA for about 100 years and maternal side almost as long. I'm thoroughly American but as far as ethnicity or nationality goes, I'm 100% Japanese.
