  1. ok, so i will most likely be upgrading my mobo and cpu.

im on a budget of 300-350 for both combined (after tax and shipping)

my needs for this cpu are for gaming.

    cpu's in my budget:

    Phenom 9950

the motherboard to go along with this cpu would need the following:
    ddr2 800 support
    1 or more pci-e 2.0 slots.
    support for the chosen cpu.

    thanks for your advice.

Go for an E8400 and a motherboard like the P5Q Pro or the GA-EP45-DS3R. Should cost you slightly less than $300.

    hey, thanks for the reply

i may wait for another month or so and nab a PII 940 if the prices are low enough
either way, i think ill wait to find out, before making a purchase (this should also drive down the other prices for both intel and amd)

As a side note... it is really easy to push the Q6600 (G0) over the 3Ghz mark on both of the boards that Rage listed, since they both use the Intel P45 chipset. Not sure if you would need the two extra cores for strictly gaming purposes but a quad is nice to have. Then again, the E8400 is a 45nm chip rather than 65nm like the Q6600...
