The only real OS's competing are 7 and XP. Nothing was wrong with XP but it desperately needed the facelift. It was time for change visually and from a feature standpoint. But I still consider XP my Old Faithful

Windows 5.x (2000, XP, server '03) has already become an antique... and is really good for servers but not for the average user.
Windows XP Professional is still the one to use, despite the 148 updates from Microsoft, and the problems with Internet Explorer 8.
Windows 7 has a great start, and I suspect it will make everybody using a new machine to forget about WXPP

i've been running win7 for a few weeks now, from vista, and i had an XP machine before that. 7 is the best of both worlds the features and prettiness of vista, but with the user friendliness of xp. win7 FTW!

I have been using Windows 7 since the RC made it's debut, and it has come a long way since then. I prefer to use Windows XP over Vista, despite the fact that there are numerous aspects I find infinitely better with Vista. For the record, I don't like how many versions of Vista/7 there are, but there is a method to the madness and it's easier with 7. if you don't know already, there are three main versions to worry about. basically, if you don't need to join a domain or xp mode, Home premium will be fine. If you do, go Pro. And if you want bitlocker, 35 languages, and access company assets securely without VPN, go Ultimate.

Windows XP and Windows 7 vista shouldn't even be up there.I also like Windows 2k very stable OS

Well, Windows 3.0 was ok, but 3.11 was pretty darn good ! according to the boss when I worked for the Clinton Administration... then I guess you would have to pick Windows 95 for Government work.

I was a major XP fan, although I liked Vista, but after using Windows 7 properly on my new machine it's my favourite Windows OS so far. Good job MS.

I loved XP, especially when Service Pack 2 hit the market. So far I'm liking Windows 7, but at the same time I'm wary for security holes and other things that are bound to happen to a new operating system.

Just FYI - Windows 7 is much more remotely secure than XP. I've run nessus scans against both after default installs (sp2 for XP) and 7 has much better results.

XP rules the world of Microsoft!

I've tried win 7 its pretty, but i need to stick to xp till my pc doesn't suck no more

I'll have to agree with that one.

I've tried VISTA. And you know what I like about VISTA?
hmmmm.....yes?
The only thing I like about VISTA is pretty much the security settings and how restrict they are compared to XP. That's the only thing I like about VISTA. XP, now now here's the one for gaming! In performance wise, XP would best 7 and VISTA! (I think) And relax, The obvious reason why I don't like the newer OS, is because they use up more memory than old OSs and most of this is just for the OS itself, then there would be like hardly any left for other programs. what was Microsoft thinking? (Durrr I don't, Maybe I just wanted a brand new better OS, one that's more unique than the others says Microsoft) XP is just as fine as VISTA and 7, the only difference I see is performance and visual. So from what I've experienced, I'd have to go with XP, sorry VISTA and 7.

The original of course:- Xerox PARC derivitive --- Mac OS :)
(it's a joke so don't go ballistic, please )

well, xp still the best, but im trying the 7 version and its pretty cool, but it has problems,i mean the compability,i have gta 4 (iv) and its not running ,my sound card driver is not known as well (when i play some music or movie the sound still cutting like a'a'a'a) and in gaming nthn happens, and there is another problem , system default settings cant be edited from the app's
and the most shitty problem is that you cant access some files like local files,temp,etc...
i tried every way and tried to get help from the internet, setting the owner ship and everything for me but still the same

Except for the problem with nearly every manufacturer, where they refuse to provide drivers for Windows 7 machines that previously had VISTA or Windows XP Professional installed, I think Windows 7 is superior now.
But it is not the fault of Windows 7... it is the money grabbing execs at Dell, HP, Compaq, eMachines, Sony, Gateway, and others who could provide the drivers, but will not.

I love xp.The menu of Vista/7 gets on my nerves. However i use 7 now couse it was nice graphics and runs my pc faster than xp.
