GET A NEW VID CARD. u can buy a geforce 3 ti 500 for like 150 bucks off the internet

THAT SYSTEM IS GREAT! all u need to do is get a better video card like a geforce 3 ti 500 and alll those games will work like MAGIC. just make sure your motherboard is socket a and not slot 1 and that the motherboard has a 4x agp compatible slot. i made the mistake of using the gefrce 3 500 on my 750mghz 2x agp motherboard and i FRIED IT in like 3 months

GTA3 and Soldier of Fortune II both run like **** on my (1 year and 2 month old system) When did the pc gaming industry change switch to a 1 year hardware replacement cycle.
Playable to me is 800x600 rez with full detail at 60 frames.

Both of these games I have to run in the lowest rez and turn down detail and even then still not very smooth at all.

I would think coding out all the systems out in the field that are older then 1 year old would not be very smart since the number of machine capable of running the games are way less.

A console can go 4-5 years but a pc can only go 1-1.5 years this seems a little weird to me.

(OBSOLETE SYSTEM 1.3 gig athlon, 256 DDR ram, geforec 2 ultra, sblive 5.1)

There is something wrong with your system thats for danm sure, I ran SOF2 and GTA3 (after a patch for GTA3 they had problems with nvidia cards and win XP) perfectly fine on an AMD Athlon 1GHz with a GF2 MX400 64MB, with a SB Live! Value. That was a great machine and I gave it away to a friend when I built new machines (money from a nice networking job I did). Anyways both a friend of mine and I built the same 1GHz systems at the same time and he can run everything I can, Granted he cant run 1600x1200 like I can but he can run it decently at 800x600 with no problems. Even games like BF1942 work on his machine. Either clean up your mess and maintain your machine or just go away because you don't know what you're talking about

You show me 5 console games (on xbox,ps2,dreamcast,or gamecube) that I actually play and like, and I will BUY you a completely new computer so you wont whine so damn much about how "PC games suck". Good luck on this one buddy. Seems youll be stuck on your little console without a free PC from me.

Oh yea.. and by the way.. just cause you can't operate that computer your mommie bought you for christmas and arent as smart as the rest of us when it comes to technical matters doesn't mean you need to knock PC games just cause you cant get them to run. Thank you drive through.

Wow you guys got all fired up about a thread that is 10 months old. Nexxus registered in June 2002 and has 6 posts. Do you really thing ripping on him and his system now does any good. I don't understand why people resurect old threads just to complain. Don't bring a tread back from the dead unless you can solve it (if the problem went unsolved) or you have the same problem and the above solutions didn't work. Surely you have better things to do than rip on people who aren't here to defend themselves.

a discussion board is here for people to provide their opinions on anything not just the latest topics. Who are you to dictate what people discuss and what threads they post on?

Discuss, yes - slam people and tell them to go away - I think not. Perhaps a little more tact is in order.

Yup Pappy

And about who is sngx : someone who's well known and appreciated here on the boards, and therefore has become a mod. So maybe his posts papa's ones are not always so dumb ;)

People who come here and begin they Techspot existance by slamming people often don't stay long :p :D

SNGX has made a very good point in that technology has moved on quite a bit over the last 10 months, so discussions on hardware posted way back are not really relevent to the original poster anymore. Maybe a new thread would have been better as the points being discussed, though related, have changed somewhat.

My *current* system is near identical to that discussed in this thread, and yes playing newer games suck. But there are still many older games that I have yet to play so its not really a problem for me. Eventually I will upgrade my system and then I'll be able to play anything currently available so I'm not that bothered about these issues really.

PS: Maybe someone will flame me now for my comments also.:D:)

YES, I surely will flame anyone who posts anything anywhere, juste have a look at my avatar to see why :D ;)

Opinions or useful contributions... yes.
Nasty snide remarks instigating unnecessary arguments and name calling... no.

Hardly constructive debate from Acid... :(

I agree, while new gameboxes (consoles) seem to be released every Xmas. We've discussed this quite a bit in past threads.

Very, very incorrect. There is a new generation of consoles every 4 years. So PS2 has 3 years to live. ;)

Teehee.. I work in technical support.. well actually tech support is only 20% of my job... but I just have no patience for people that know nothing about computers and just because they can't get their PC to work correctly they have a cow and get all upset thinking a computer is "the devil" or is "a P.O.S."... obviously if so many people are using computers they aren't so bad. I get people calling me that can't even figure out how to double-click.. like I mean.. "Hi how are you....... double click My Computer...."
and I get a response something like "I only have one mouse how can I double click!!!???" well you see what I mean when I say my patience has worn thin with people like that :)

Hehe - I know what you mean Acid. When I start feeling like that I try not to reply to threads at all. I've been in tech support (I'm a computer engineer now) and I still do a little bit of support for the big wigs around here if they talk to the right people so my patience has been tested as well. Let's just try to maintain the peace around here as much as we can. :)

What were we talking about originally?

Seriously. I am here to say that PC gaming does not suck, it is alive and well. Consoles are becoming far more PC-like to make up for their lack of versatility. (i.e. keyboards for ps2, internet gaming, voice chat, team based games online, RTS for console)

I love pc gaming, and it does not suck.

LONG LIVE THE PC!

I prefer PC gaming because I like 1280x1024 progressive scan over TV interlaced display, don't want to give up my mouse control, really like to DL a demo before I go and spend $50 for a game ( I guess nowadays that can be countered with the ability to go to Blockbuster and renting the game first), game patching and add-ons and probably other reasons I haven't thought of at the moment. Besides, I already have 4 computers, so I don't need to buy a bunch of game boxes to play lan games with the family.

Nexx,Like everyone else is saying, your system is fine. You just got to know whats a good config for what you got.Video cards a little out of date but everything else is far from dated yet..I myself HATE consoles, they are basicly made for people who dont know PCs or operating systems. But I dont go around bashing them and I UNDERSTAND both.I hope you do get your problem solved but its not the pc its a "Pilot"error.
