WiFi help, I dont know anything about it

ok my family is living in the dark ages. it took me 4 years to convince my grandparents to get high speed internet. now I'm trying to get them to make our house one of those wifi hotspot things. the only thing is i don't know how to explain it to them so i will ask the questions we have and hope i get some answers that help.

1. what do we need?
2. does it cost any extra a month?
3. how much does the hardware needed cost?
4. what is the best hardware?

now like i said we already have a high speed internet connection through our cable company. but any additional information some one could give would be greatly appreciated.

You will need to purchase a wireless router. I prefer Linksys, but there are also many DLink fans out there. These wireless routers are a one-time cost and go between your new modem and the PC's that you want to connect to the Internet. The last time I checked, the cost for one of these routers was around $60.
