  1. I have an external hard disk drive (Western Digital MyBook 500GB, if that matters what kind it is...) and I was wondering if I put it inside my checked baggage, well padded of course, will the air port security X-ray machines wipe / damage the data?
(I am hoping to reduce the amount of luggage I have to carry around the airport to the gate and all...)
So do you guys think my precious pictures and videos and various digital valuables will be safe?

X -Rays won`t affect an HD

    Stupid security officers,can.

Just make sure they treat it carefully,if they want to look

    in your bag.

Very strong magnetic fields can affect HDs.So avoid those, too.

(don`t take it into an MRI scanner :haha: )

Okay so you think that my hard disk drive should be safe in the checked baggage for air travel?
