O/S is Win 2000, It is online all the time and primary program being used is TrasnsCore 3sixty (freigt board). I have done all that I can think of - no virus' are detected, I have defraged and removed all temp "junk" files and ran disk cleanup. It is still slow - is it possible that the registry needs to be fixed to speed it up? I had to do that to my home puter once and I did not keep the info on the "free" Regit cleaner I found online which allowed me to go in and fix some files that were causing problems. Anyone know of free cleaners which I can download onto the computer to try cleaning it up to see if that helps speed it up?

    Here is a bump.

Don't overlook that the HDD may be heading for a failure. Check the logs. SMART is not always a reliable predictor of a looming failure.

Defrag does re-write much of the HDD. However, much of the OS is not affected.

Investing in another HDD is cheap insurance. Move everything to the replacement, then re-format the old drive.

Malware Removal Procedure has links for Cleaners & HJT that can be used for "tune ups".
