This only applies to the USB ports on the rear of my computer as far as I'm aware.

When you plug USB devices into the computer windows sometimes completely freezes and then the screen goes black and the computer restarts itself and makes 2 long beeping noises.

Either this or sometimes blue screens.

Why?!

Is it possible that it's a software problem within windows or is it hardware?

I used to have XP installed on this same machine and there was absolutely no problems like this......

Did you run the Window 7 Upgrade Advisor before you went from XP to Windows 7?

Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor

Most Vista PC's can be upgraded easily to Windows 7. This is not so with XP. Video and memory are details you must pay attention to. For Windows 7 2GB system memory minimum and a Window 7 certified video card is needed. The Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor will tell you what you need. Did you perform a clean Windows 7 install on this PC?
