I say go x64 as well. I've got it running on several of my machines now, including my laptop. Haven't had any serious issues with any of them. My gaming machine, my Macbook Pro, my Dell laptop, and my work machine are all running Win7 Enterprise x64. I think I might have an issue with Quake II, but that might just be an SLI problem (I haven't researched it.) All my other games work fine and I don't see a lower frame rate. Plus, with RAM so cheap there's no reason to have less than 4 GB anyway, and if you don't have it now you probably will soon enough. Who wants to re-install their OS just because they added RAM?

Remember that you need a 64-bit processor to run a 64-bit Operating System

^^ Yeah, I know. I actually have a Core 2 Duo 2.5 Ghz + 4GB RAM MacBook Pro so as far as these two traits are concerned, I won't be able to upgrade as long as I stay on this laptop.

    Btw, what's a SLI problem?

    Thanks for the link.

The reason I'm so skeptical about x64 is that I previously installed it on my BootCamp partition on Mac and when I ran Street Fighter 4 it worked fine on the first launch, but that was it. It wouldn't launch on the 2nd, 3rd and n-th launch anymore. Why oh why??

Also, I've been reading comments about the latest NFS: Shift also not working on Win 7 x64, while it worked for others. I haven't had a chance to try it out yet, because I've replaced x64 with a x32 bit version to test it out anyway. And by the way, Street Fighter 4, for instance, WORKS now on each and every launch. Would NFS: Shift also only work on the 32-bit version? I don't know, but something tells me that that could be the case.

Now since I use my BootCamp partition mainly for gaming, is x64 Win 7 really the optimal choice for me? I mean, I really don't feel like dealing with fear of games being incompatible and disappointments upon realizing that certain games apparently INDEED ARE incompatible with the x64 system. What the hell... I thought games were supposed to work on the "oh glorious almighty" x64 system.

It really pissed me off. Is there a workaround for such games (other than compatibility mode - which may possibly result in having to switch to like Win '98 and thus getting quite unpleasant gaming experience)?

Can any one tell me the add ons that Windows 7 is having, compared to Windows Vista.

What do you mean by add-ons?
  9. abhimaheswari Newcomer, in training

I meant the extra features implemented.

Windows 7 does everything better than Vista. Everything from navigation to connecting to the Internet to running games and other applications easily. Security warnings are toned-down and Windows 7 is better looking...

My gaming machine is running x64 - and I've never had a problem with SFIV on it. I don't have Shift yet, but I'm betting it'll work just fine. I'm thinking there's probably something else going on with your system preventing you from having a transparent experience. Do you install any other software (like 64-bit versions of your staple apps) when in x64? Maybe one of those is causing an issue - or maybe a 64 bit driver.

I installed Winrar, Daemon Tools Lite and ESET NOD all 64-bit... I also updated NVIDIA driver to the latest one (also x64)...

And now that I'm on Windows 7 x32, SFIV works without a problem even after lots of launches...... so it apparently IS a 64-bit system problem..

I recently installed Viper anti-virus anti-spyware beta for Win7. Very nice. Only a 15 day trial but I'm thinking of spending the $29 for it. Very resource light.

Not sure if this has been asked yet

has anyone fixed the issue of explorer restarting just about everytime you have a folder open with video's?
    Do you know how?

Try updating your video drivers, if that doesn't work, set the view to details not thumbnails. Then if that doesn't work, try to find out how to turn off creating a thumbnail file, thumbs.db.
