Windows 8 print problem

    Trying to print to a Brother ML-2040 (driver installed) I get a notice of "printer in an error state". I looked at one answer on this forum about unchecking bidirectional etc, but it wasn't checked. I'd appreciate any other suggestion on how to get the printer to work. I tried the Windows help program, but it couldn't solve the problem. Thanks....Jim
