Windows can't find secpol.msc

  1. I've just started using XP and I have been going through this site tweaking my system. Very nice site BTW.

When I started on the Security section, I got the message as in the subject of this thread when I tried to follow the following instructions:

"Click on Start, Run type in secpol.msc & click Ok. Expand Local Policies & select Security Options."

Any help will be greatly appriciated.

secpol.msc may not be available in XP Home edition, if that is what you have.

I don't know this for a fact, of course. But Home edition does suffer from less security than Professional.

Rick is correct, XP Home lacks those security options....

You're exactly right. XP HE is what I have. Thanks! I'll keep searching the site for more tweaks. It's been extremely helpful so far.
