  1. Hello, I have a big problem with my windows xp professional that i've never seen before. This problem just randomly showed up. Anyways whenever I try to open any folder on my computer a windows explorer error message appears and when I click debug, or send error report or dont send error report, the message dissapears and the explorer bar resets and the folders shut down. I am not able to access my pictures or move them or anything. Someone please help. I've ran virus scans but nothing seems to help. I am running a Dell Dimension 3000. Here's the error messages:

This is a shot in the dusk (vs. the dark  ) as just found something on someone else's computer who posted here, searched for the same file versions and found them listed in your post.

In any case, should be easy for you to try. Please post back to indicate whether it had any effect or not.

Microsoft issued KB933566 mid June and seems to cause a variety of problems for those who installed it. From the file versions in your post am pretty sure you installed it. Try Add/Remove Programs, be sure to check the Show Updates box at the top and look for the KB933566 entry and remove it.

    Does that help your problem?

Can you still access system restore?

But I believe this KB933566 error was with Windows VISTA, not XP Professional... The equivalent error in WXPP was KB 931768, and was related to Internet Explorerer email issued. it started causing trouble on May 28th, and we have seen a few... but it was resolved by June 19th.

This posting above is definitely a WXPP errror... We saw the problems mostly with people who used Norton or Symantec...

None of the machines we repaired had a problem as massive as Vic2000740 either.... not close.

Looks to me as if you have a major infestation of some kind... or a major hardware glitch.

    Huh??

Did Grasshopper have a late night? Things look a little fuzzy this morning, do they? :suspiciou

No, actually, it's more likely Microsoft's numbering scheme and sometime re-use of numbers for different OS.

I leave you with these snippets and I rest my case.

    Hi,

    This is an old,old, problem,unfortunately.

The brief explanation is that Windows tries to create thumbnail previews
of videos, but crashes Explorer for some unknown reason.

The brief solution is to go to go to :

    Start/Run/and paste in - regsvr32 /u shmedia.dll then click OK.

That turns off previews.More solutions HERE

Thanks for that info Po`Girl. Sounds like symptoms might be a better match.

but fyi... keep the KB933566 info for XP i mentioned tucked away in your toolkit as i'm finding a number of people associating problems with it as well
