Windows Media Player no sound

  1. Hey... I have an HP Pavilion dv9000 laptop. I have Windows 7 installed. I have been having a hard time with Media Player: every 3rd time or so I attempt to play something (usually avi, or mp3) the sound for the computer shuts off and I usually have to restart it to fix the problem. When it happens I try to end it using task manager, but it then shows "not responding." I hope it's not a hardware problem, but if you have any ideas, please let me know. Thanx

Do you have a Windows 7 audio driver installed? Have you run Windows Update to check for and install all available updates including all the optional updates? Many Windows 7 drivers are optional
