It may just be a few days on from the release of the all new HTC One (M8), but rumors are already circulating about a potential Windows Phone version of the handset. WPDang reports that HTC is preparing such a device, which reportedly will feature similar technology and a similar design to the Android flagship.

It's said that the company's new high-end Windows Phone will be running Microsoft's upcoming update to the platform: Windows Phone 8.1. The previous update, Update 3 to Windows Phone 8, brought support for top-end Qualcomm SoCs such as the Snapdragon 800, as well as 1080p displays, so it's entirely possible that the HTC M8 could run the OS.

As a refresher, the HTC One (M8) features a 5.0-inch 1920 x 1080 LCD display, a Snapdragon 801 SoC with a quad-core CPU clocked at 2.3 GHz plus an Adreno 330 GPU, and 2 GB of LPDDR3 memory. There's also up to 32 GB of internal storage plus a microSD card slot, and the Ultrapixel-powered "Duo Camera" on the back.

The last major Windows Phone device released by HTC was the Windows Phone 8X, launched alongside Windows Phone 8 in November 2012. A new high-end handset in HTC's Windows Phone line-up is overdue, and Microsoft is said to be focusing on hardware partners in future releases, not just Nokia.

No indication was given of when we might see a Windows Phone-powered version of the HTC One (M8), but let's hope it's not just a phantom device.

I think it'll be better for them if they don't, since the one year old 4MP camera (with new sensor) can't match with current higher end Lumias, let alone the newer ones, and with other similar specs. It can save some money and help them live for another day ......... just an opinion.
