Windows startup problem

when i start up my computer it boots then the windows xp page shows its loading but as soon as it loads it just reboots and this process just keeps repeating itself over and over. So i hit F8 but when i do that no buttons on my keyboard work, does anyone know why this is happening and is there a cure.
