Windows stuck on startup, can't log on any account

Running:

Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition

Windows stuck in Startup (Loading Bar)

Can't log on!

When trying to access safe mode it gets frozen with the Multi(0)disk thing

Nothing else works

I tried the Last Good Config. and all the others

Please Help

Brand and model of computer or motherboard... age of system?

As Raybay says give the brand and model of computer....

Also have you change any hardware recently in the computer?

By brand do you mean like Gateway cause thats what i have.

I don't now what kind of motherboard I have and I have not installed any new hardware or software.

How do I find the kind of motherboard i have?

This happened to me twice but I used a the Gateway Restore DVD to fix it but it doesnt work a second time.

Also tried using the disk and going to command prompt and typing chkdsk and chkdsk /f (no errors show up).

Update:

when i try to use the "Last Good Configuration" option it says the following message:

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:

\Windows\system32\config\System

About 4-5 years that I had originally bought the Computer
