I am running windows XP media center edition. Recently it has started to make the device disconnect sound and about 1 second later the connect sound and during that time the system freezes. There is no word balloon from the systray or other notification. Just the sound and the freeze like it's dedicating the processor to it.
Is there a way to watch what it going on with the system? Something like a show log on a cisco or other way to view whats going on behind the scenes? Feel free to tell me what you think it might be as well.

Thanks in advance.

Double check plugs and cables of USB/Firewire/Ps2 devices.

Basically anything connected to your computer (Mouse included).

I've done that. I even plugged what was in the USB slots into other unused USB slots. It seems to be happening when I move between different programs...sometimes. It's not consistent.

Damaged wires in a cable or inside the mouse itself can be difficult to detect.

Make sure you swap out all the cables/mouse.

There is a program HERE called the Plug-and-Play Monitor

That nearly sounds like it may be useful.
