just upgrade to windows 7, sure you probably won't get to use some programs that's isnt capable with windows 7 but is with xp, but it sure does save a headache.

can't you use the old cpu for the flash and then switch? Or flash from W7 =P

We have installed 71 of those BIOStar P4M900-M4 boards. All work fine.
None have failed or have given problems.
At $52.00 they are a deal, particularly for those people stuck with the evil eMachines computers that have 74% failure rate.

Also, we us an AsRock 478 board that works equally well.

As for a "Bad BIOS Flash" harming a motherboard, we have never seen it. We have seen Flash memory fail. But never have we seen the motherboard damaged. Any defective installs from a Flash are easily removed.

Of course, if you are talking about flashing the BIOS, that absolutely damage the board, if you are not expert in Flashing a BIOS.

Really, if you follow the instructions that your manufacturer (for the motherboard) supplies, and look up some stuff online to better understand the process, it's not going to be hard to flash your BIOS to upgrade the version.

I also have a suggestion for your problem with needing XP: Can you run a virtual machine of XP inside Windows 7 and use what you need? That seems like a good idea, although I'm not sure what you're trying to do, so you may have a hard time doing it, but it'd be worth a try no?
