I have an e-machine freshly reformated with all but hardware and IE7 updates and it locks up while shutting down. It gives me the screen for about 5 -10 secs then it just locks up and i have to pull the plug or hold down the button for 5 secs. BUT i can restart the computer with no problems. can anyone help?

You can check your Event Viewer to see what error, if any, is being flagged.

Sounds like some program won't close. Try to identify it.

Only thing is i don't even log in and it locks up while shutting down

i get no errors in the Event Log just a Warning

it is says that it was using something of the registry while trying to log off

though i have gotten the warning serverl times before it never before affected the shut down. + it is only showed up once when i have tried to shut it down over 10 times

I just learned that it isn't the power supply i jsust switch it out and it still does it though i am wondering if it is possibly the ACPI on the mother board

acually i just fixed the problem

it seems that the ACPI was gone on the mobo soo......
in windows i disabled the ACPI Uniprocessor Driver and loaded the other one (the name slips my mind) and now it shuts down even though i have to old skool it (Push the power Button)
