  1. Hi.
Windows Xp will not start up on my girlfriends comp. It comes up with an error saying something along the lines of pci.sys file is corrupt or missing. It then says about inserting install/repair disk and pressing r.
She brought the comp second hand and she received no disks with it. I've obtained my mothers Xp install disk. Will i be able to repair the problem with this disk or will i have to buy a new copy and re install it ?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If your mother's XP version is the same as your girlfriend's, you have no problems.
But XP-pro and XP-home do NOT mix.
You will also need to check that the service-pack level on the CD is the same as on the girlfriend's PC.
If necessary make a new XP-CD with SP1 or SP2 slipstreamed into it.

If there have many important informations or softs in your girlfriend's PC.
I advice you to recover it by resume console in XP cd.
