Another thing, it might be a good idea to have each member report the results of their deals with each other and set a place aside for just that.
At least until enough people have started making enough deals that they can start using heatware.com for their trading reputation. All the good forums, with the exception of ars technica, use heatware.com for reports on people who buy\sell\trade and their good and bad records are there for all to see. Heatware is well respected and should be used by this new for sale\trade section you have started.

    Lets give a try!!!
Julio you are awesome to try again.
    Rules look great!
    I make only one suggestion:
you may need a disclaimer of responsibilty.
unless it's already covered under TS site guide lines.

    Thank you!!

    Remember people, "Picture friendly" please.....
  4. nork TechSpot Guru

What do you mean by picture friendly?
For instance, i have a compactflash card listed, is there a need for a pic of that?
And many people dont have digital cameras. I do but for some reason its not taking decent indoor photos. I dont know if its the camera or if its me, but i have tried many settings. Im just saying that not everyone is going to be able to post pics, not looking for help on my camera, lol.
    thanks

Thats the general rule on TS.
I don't think he means all [FS:US] post's need a pic, just that TS is very a "family oriented" resource, that anything we post here, pic's included, need always keep that in mind.

    edit: on further review
  6. nork TechSpot Guru

I see. I didnt even think of the other, non-family oriented, type of pics. Guess i am getting old, lol. Most people would have enuf sense but there is always one to try and spoil things i suppose, so good point.
    thanks

I got the first "for sale" post in!
I am gonna end up with a huge list of goodies, lol.

    The points covered.

Perhaps, although it will never beat e-bay. I do not think it will be used a lot - but we will see:) I'm just glad Julio is taking suggestions seriously. That is what the Techspot community is all about:) Well done mate.

    Regards,

You are right, I guess that's what happens when you try to do a bunch of stuff when it's 5am already! :)

As for your suggestions, I will keep reading them and round them up during the weekend and make modifications to the rules. I think heatware could be added a bit later when we get more trades in, as of now it's in our best interest to attract members' attention first.

Trolling is something we should be cautious about and users will be forewarned, however we should also remain as accessible as possible.

Can i respectfully suggest we do our own reports on our deals until we get larger and involve heatware, either that or involve heatware right off the bat.
You see, the good quality people will WANT to be in heatware as it will be good for them, it will show they are good people. ONLY the bad ones will not want to be in heatware. Quite honestly, heatware or some form of reporting is and will be essential to a good buy\sell forum. I hope you trust me on this.

I don't know if vBullitine supports selective post delete by OP, when an item sells or transaction is complete.
As you may see My items are gone, but I wasn't able to delete the post. so I updated status.

    What is Trolling?

    Thanks
  13. nork TechSpot Guru

Trolling is the act of thievery, stealing. I have a cpu for sale for $100, i send you my cpu and trust you will send the $100 but you dont. Attempts to contact you become worthless and i am out $100. It happens a LOT, its the only thing bad about for sale\trade sections. And that is why heatware.com or some form of "credit report" is not just important, its a total and complete necessity, i cant state it more unless i use caps or swear, lol.
Some of the trolls out there have already seen our new section. They will hit first and fast if we arent prepared. Sounds alarming, it should.
I happen to have a good record, over 150 good deals at heatware.com and over 150 at ars technicas report section. Consequently i basically would retain the right to have a person ship to me first then i send the money. And if heatware reports are accepted here i will be fine. So this may not be for me, all that i say. Heatware or some form of reporting will be for all the decent, honest traders from this forum and the many new who will join up.

Someone suggested a person should have a min 100 posts before they are allowed to post or trade in the for sale section. I agree not 100% but i agree 1000%. I could say a whole lot more about this and other topics but i dont want anyone to think i am being pushy or whatever negative they might think. But i can back up all that i have said. Check out some of the other forums, search for troll and you will find out what i am saying is true.
We DO have one issue, and that is trolls. We DO need to be prepared for them. Are we prepared? No we are not. But we can prepare and we need to.

If you dont agree with what i say, please forgive.
    thanks

Oh, and these trolls have a great sense of humor too. I can tell you many of the tricks they have played on people!
I have even contacted trolls and talked them into sending the items back that they stole! One guy had stolen, if i recall correctly, around $500 to $1000 from a few people and i got him to return the stuff. That was over at anandtech's forum.
