It is never recommended to install a hard drive with an OS installed into another computer... You can try this, but you may end up with an unstable computer. It is best to install the operating system fresh

Thank you magic, would this mean having to purchase windows xp? And would it be ok to use my hard drive as a slave hard drive? Thanks.

Yes you can hook up the old drive as a slave. You will need a copy of the operating system of your choice
