XP Home Edition times out ???

Is there any reason why a timer would pop up on the screen, count down the seconds and then shut the computer down???

This happens after you've been on the computer for awhile, not right away. Could this have anything to do with registering XP ?

Now, the computer won't boot. When I select the box for it to use the last, known good configuration - it just locks up again. Won't go into Safe mode or anything. Gotta love this OS .....

Secondly the Search featue is your friend.

This has been discussed many times. I think this thread is what you are looking for.
