  1. Hello all. I am trying to do a clean installation on a friends computer and it starts out doing ok loading the drivers, and then it stops and gives me an error. I was running late for work and didnt have time to write down the whole error, but I did get Ftdisk.sys and Error 4096. I have never seen this before and have checked many different places and cant come up with anything. Any ideas on what might be going on, and how I can fix it? Thanks in advance!

    ..sounds like you've got damage on XP CD. I guess.

    try this one:
    get a win98 boot disk from
    start pc with this disk
    run fdisk command
    delete partition if any on the hdd
    create partition
    turn pc off and restart with the same disk
    format your hdd
    it's clean
    take 98 disk off the pc
    put xp cd in
    start pc
    let xp install clean
