Basically a friend of mine is building a system just for home use, P4 3.2Gnz 1GB Ram and a 120HDD.

My friend has just got a full version of XP Pro and we’ve never come across a problem, now we’ve both installed XP Pro before on other PC’s etc but neither of us has come across this problem.

XP Loads initially ok and it goes through all the usual procedures and writes all the OS files onto the HDD, it gets past the asking for the COA key and confirming it, it then asks for all of the regional setting to be set KB etc, it then does a re-start but once re-stared it does not come back on to the welcome screen instead it just all goes blank and just hangs.

My friend has taken out the CD and restarted the PC but it just stops when Windows appears and does nothing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers Dave

just a thought... did you set the hdd as a "boot from device" inside the bios?
