XP SP3 HDD capacity recognition

I'm trying to install an older but new Samsung HD103SJ 1 TB on an '05 HP Desktop via a USB 2.0 docking station. I've formatted it as an NTSF drive and verified I have the latest BIOS, etc. There are no jumpers on the drive and all it reads in 29+ GB. How can I make the system recognize the 1TB capacity. I've read a lot of suggestions but nothing seems to work.

Delete ALL partitions and save

create a small recovery partition ~1gb
then define the remainder as the boot partition.
save.

FORMAT the last one NTFS
