Yamaha RXV3300 as external DAC for PC?

I used to use a SB Live to 'make' music on my ex-PC. Not a bad job to be honest but always thought it lacked some depth (probably my source sounds).
Things have moved on and now I have an 'expensive' home theatre setup with a Yamaha 3300 receiver. I'm looking to get back into the music thing and looking at alternative setups.

One option is to use the Yamaha's DACs to convert the sound from the PC via an optical cable and then feed the analogue sound back into the PC to get recorded. Would the benefits of using quality external DACS be negated by feeding back into PC and all that noise etc?

Has anyone tried this, general thoughts also welcome.
