SiS today announced the release of its new single channel DDR/DDR2 Chipset –the SiS649.

With 1 GB supported per DIMM, the SiS649's two slots can support 2GB of system RAM. Either DDR or DDR2 can be used, offering a handy upgrade path for users who want to buy the motherboard now and use their existing RAM, perhaps later upgrading to DDR2 when ready.

The SiS649 also features SiS MuTIOL® 1G technology which helps facilitate smooth transfers of data between South and North Bridges.
