MPAA tool will help detect illegal files

By Derek Sooman

The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) is to offer a tool to help people detect illegally downloaded files on their system. The software will be able to detect illegal mp3s and movies, as well as remove illegal P2P software. The MPAA hopes the move will help parents keep their children from breaking the law (maybe because the MPAA plans to eat them if they do!)

  1. Do you suppose they will be installing this software on my computer against my will?
  2. or send any information back to them.....
  3. I wonder how long it will be before the MPAA writing a worm that scans infected machines for illegal files and then reports you to the MPAA if its found. The technology to do this has existed for some time.
