Yahoo has started a service that provides the developer community with access to Web service application programming interfaces for Yahoo Search. This new network will also provide developers with application program interfaces, mailing lists and discussion groups dedicated to various APIs, an application showcase, a weblog, and a "wiki". All in all, it’s a developer's dream!

"We believe this program will foster a new ecosystem within the development community." - Yahoo spokesperson Stephanie Ichinose.

Rival search engine Google has managed to foster a good relationship with developers, and now Yahoo wants the same. The new network is organized along vertical lines, including Web search, image search, video search, news search, local search, spelling correction, and related searches. Sample code is provided for a number of popular development languages, be they scripting or OO. Java, JavaScript, Perl, Python and PHP are just some of the supported languages.
