Microsoft has placed on its Microsoft Developer Network website a taste of some new and improved code from Longhorn, the next wave of Windows technologies. The code details some improvements in online video, and also provides an insight into Longhorn security. Microsoft has posted beta 1 release candidate versions of Indigo, Avalon and other Longhorn technologies.

There are now beta 1 packages available for Microsoft’s new presentation subsystem, codenamed Avalon, and its web services-based communication subsystem, codenamed Indigo.

In addition, the company has made available a new beta technology for end-user identity management, called InfoCards. A single sign-on technology, InfoCards allows users to gain secure access to all authorised websites and applications without having to use multiple log-ins.
