Mozilla's Firefox has been downloaded 75 million times
Mozilla's Firefox has now been downloaded 75 million times, and Thunderbird, the open-source e-mail reader also from Mozilla, has reached its 10 millionth download. To mark the occasion, the Mozilla Foundation said it was expanding in several directions. The Mozilla staff itself has quadrupled during the past six months, to 40 employees, making this a good time for the Foundation.
"We're beefing up the management on the project," said Chris Hofmann, whose title at Mozilla is in flux since the foundation hired another director of engineering. "The project is still very healthy. We're seeing continued corporate interest and have a lot of large organizations that want to do deployments."
Mozilla is also in discussions with phone makers about them using Minimo, the company's browser for small devices. No company was actually named, but the smart money is on Nokia, who are currently a funder of Mozilla.
