In a press release published yesterday, AMD has made it official that they are now offering and supplying Dual-Core AMD Opteron processors. This beast of a chip has been an excellent performer and has been making headway into the x86 server market.

Apparently, this will require little in the way of hardware upgrades as the EBX platform already supports dual-core processors. What really impressed me was the low-model versions that dissipate as little as 55W. That is incredible for a server processor. When dual-core Xeon EM64Ts and dual-core Opterons are going head to head I will be very interested to see price vs performance charts. I can't wait! Read the full press release here.
