Scheduled for release this February, Intel is going to be offering the the next step up for the Extreme Edition P4 line. A 3.46Ghz, 65nm based Dual-Core P4 that also supports Hyperthreading. It is coming along with a revision to the 955 chipset, dubbed 975, that offers 1066MHz FSB. No word on whether this newer chipset will support speeds above DDR2-667 for RAM. The chip also supports Intel's VT. Because it uses a 65nm core versus the current 90nm common for P4s but has nearly the same clock speed, it may end up drawing quite a bit less power per core. With two cores, though, it's still going to be a heater. The CPU will be able to support executing four threads in parallel. Definitely impressive on paper, it will be interesting to see how much this chip can deliver. Most likely, a lot.
