IBM warns of cyber crime threats

IBM has warned that online threats are becoming increasingly sophisticated.

"With stiffer penalties and increased security protection on most systems we are seeing organised, committed and tenacious profiteers entering this space," said Cal Slemp, vice president of IBM's security and privacy services.

"This means that attacks will be more targeted and potentially more damaging. Organisations around the world from the public and private sectors must move quickly and work together to address this growing challenge."

The company has predicted that this year will see a sharp rise in attacks. IBM expects that malicious hackers and other cyber criminals will shift away from penetrating system security defences to tempting folks to execute Trojans and other malware to get their dirty work done.

 1. Ouch, escalation. I see a war coming. A cyber war. And duh, yaeh security threats are getting worse. Hmmm... let's see. We have several, large corporations, with unlimited resources. Problem, they are restricted to certain mandates, working a certain way, and they are a corporation, some things take time. Hackers, limited resources. However, hard to find, could be operating from literally anywhere, can get "bugs" and info on a comanies tactics throught many differrent means, and have to wait for no one. Now IBM, says they expect hackers to become more organized? Ouch, well if this keeps up.....
 2.
IBM has warned that online threats are becoming increasingly sophisticated.
Why thank you IBM, for that tidbit of previously unknown information! lol
 3. Yeah... I don't see this piece of news very informing. Yes, more sophisticated attacks this year. You don't need a major brand logo (IBM) to predict that. But I suspect this headline is more of a warning to hackers everywhere that organizations are more prepared and willing to fight them. A few puffs of smoke or not, only time will tell. But organized crimes are much more dangerous because rather than targeting individuals, they focus on corporations and companies with employees who think porn e-mails with This-is-a-virus.exe are free porn programs waiting to be downloaded and installed.
 4. Hmmmm.....IBM is alerting people to the fact that it's easier to find naive computer users than to bypass security systems.......brilliant!!Seriously though....this issue needs to keep getting hammered home, and hopefully companies and private sector users will put forth a better effort this year when it comes to security.....and common sense for that matter. 5. A hacker will always be hacker, and you've got to always protect yourself when your surfing the net. The best thing to do is keep your firewall on, and be sure you pay attention to any strange activity, and ads that try to convince you to click on them. It looks like 2006 is going to be the year of the Hackers.
 6. Sigh... Does anyone remember the days when hacking was all about seeing what you could access, without doing any damage, whilest trying to remain undetected? It seems the term hacker has been morphed before my time, from representing a benign force that attempted to access secure information for the sake of doing so, to the malicious, profiteering and dangerous force that it represents now...It is sad that no matter what technology is invented, there will be those who try their best to misuse it with the intent of personal gain, with no regard to the losses of others...

Hackers will be included plus natural disasters, another war thanks to Bush, and more censorship from China. Oh, and i've got GCSEs too!Man, this year is going to be so depressing with more negatives than positives i think.
