Sony annnounces May release date of BluRay players and titles

As of today, Sony has officially announced the availability of BluRay DVD format in the retail sector. Starting on May 23rd, the same time that the new optical units themselves will be made available, a total of eight different titles will be available for purchase and another eight a month later. Although buying an optical unit which works with a total of 16 titles isn't usually the safest bet, this is actually one of the larger out of the box launches that has happened, even since the VHS days. Sony is probably trying to get some ground gained on HD-DVD, which will launch before them. Now we just wait and see who can produce the first super high capacity HD-DVD or BluRay burner.

What I'd like to see is the price of the first units...Wait! The first Blu-ray's going to be made by Samsung? Pretty strange... Sony invented the format...

As long as it works good, doesn't really matter where it comes from....
