17" LCDs approaching break-even point

If you look at the majority of combination sales or prebuilt machines, the most common display being sold in that category is going to be the 17” LCD. That may soon begin to shift. Why? The cost of producing 17” LCD panels is quickly approaching how much they sell for. Indeed, a 17” LCD, if you aren't looking for fantastic response times, is very affordable, almost comparable with a 19” CRT. To improve profits, manufacturers will start to shift to 19” models. For us, that's actually a great thing – The cost of both sizes will start to drop, and as 17” becomes phased out, those who piece together a PC themselves will get an even better deal than before.
