Pentagon hacker prepares himself for verdict

The so called "Pentagon hacker" Gary McKinnon, 40, is due to find out whether he will be extradited to the US on 10 May. McKinnon rates his chances of avoid this at only 50 per cent. He is accused of alleged attacks on military and NASA systems, which it is said took place between 2001 and 2002. Charged under US anti-terror laws, McKinnon admits he looked at computer systems without permission but denies causing any intentional harm.

Lawyers for McKinnon want him to be tried over his offences in the UK rather than the US. "I'm very worried. Whatever happens I'll have a fight on my hands for the next 18 months or so," he said. "If I'm sent to the US, I'd face trial in front of a secret military tribunal."

  1. ...Meanwhile, hackers have released virii/trojans that lock up computers and threaten users with deletion of all data, unless a ransom is paid. Instead of going after those people who actually are terrorists, this guy is getting reamed for simply looking at classified information in the hopes of dispelling government lies.
  2. As I remeber this guy was working for the US government afterwards. I smell fishy stuff.
