In their most recent attempt to make a place for themselves in the business computing market, the Japanese giant presented today their new VAIO Type G ultralight laptop. This sophisticated 12.1” screen laptop weighs a mere 1.98 lbs. and comes with all the features you would expect like wireless 802.11g, Bluetooth connection, PCMCIA, a multi-card reader and even support for a fingerprint reader. Battery life for this laptop is advertised to be 6 hours with an optional upgrade to a 6-cell battery pack that boosts operation time to an amazing 12.5 hours at the cost of added weight.

"The small, thin and light market within the business market is growing and that's the area where we can show our strength in terms of product and technology," said Yoshihisa Ishida, a Sony senior vice president and head of the company's Vaio business, in an interview.

The Sony VAIO G will have a price tag that ranges from $1,800 to $2,100 depending on the configuration chosen. The launch of this laptop will be held on December 2 in Japan, with no foreseeable plans to launch it anywhere else yet.
