Intel introduces 2GHz quad-core Xeon
Without fanfare or a press release, Intel has introduced a new quad core Xeon, the E5335. Operating at 2GHz, it sits in between two other quad core models. This is slightly earlier than Intel's original roadmap for the quad core Xeons, with the 2GHz model originally not scheduled for release until February. Due to higher than expected yields, they are releasing it sooner. It's not a cheap chip at $690, but is intended for extremely powerful servers with it's 8MB of L2 cache and 1333MHz FSB. Likely it will be a popular pick for system configs, with a high clock speed but a significantly lower cost than the 2.33GHz parts.
