According to DigiTimes’ anonymous Taiwan handset maker sources, Google will “definitely” launch its own-brand handset but has yet to finalize details about the handset's specifications, OS, production contractor and operating partners.

DigiTimes says Google was initially considering EDGE connectivity developed by Texas Instruments for the device. However, recent developments indicate that Google is also evaluating the possibility of going the 3G route, switching to Qualcomm as its chip provider, thus pushing back the introduction of the device into the first half of 2008.

In line with earlier reports, DigiTimes also says that Google is working on its own Linux-based mobile device platform and that HTC will be producing the so-called gPhone.
