OpenOffice 2.3.1 addresses severe security flaw
OpenOffice users everywhere, be advised that the OO team has released a security update for the 2.x releases of the office suite. This includes the latest release, 2.3. Due to a severe security vulnerability which you can read about on Secunia, the OO team has released version 2.3.1 of the suite.
The flaw lies within the internal HSQLDB database engine that OpenOffice uses, and ultimately could be used to compromise a machine if a malicious database document is opened. If you don't feel like updating just now, be careful of randomly downloading database files.
Or you could just be on the safe side and update today. The OpenOffice team announced this flaw on their site and confirmed it is present in the entire 2.x series.
